Addressing what's underneath

ADHD rarely comes alone. At ACES Clinic, mental health therapy addresses the anxiety, mood, stress, and self-criticism that so often travel with it.

Jennifer Halloran, MSW, LCSW

Mental health therapy at ACES is led by Jennifer Halloran, MSW, LCSW. She earned her Master's in Social Work from Indiana University with a fellowship in behavioral health, has advanced training in motivational interviewing and substance overuse disorders, and holds advanced certification in CBT, DBT, and ACT. Jennifer has spent the majority of her career supporting young adults in a variety of clinical settings. Through her work she noted a particular interest in working with neurodivergent populations. While she achieved positive outcomes in treating various mental health diagnoses for those who do not have ADHD, she observed for her clients with ADHD their executive functioning difficulties often hindered progress outside of their clinical sessions. Motivated by these observations, Jennifer collaborated with Janell to establish a clinic focusing on young adults with ADHD. Their goal was to create a client-centered environment characterized by flexibility and the most up to date clinical practices. By merging clinical evidence-based mental health treatments with the specialized expertise of an experienced Occupational Therapist (OT), the clinic provides a comprehensive approach which best addresses the needs often seen in college students with ADHD. Most mental health issues emerge in a person’s teens and early 20’s. That combined with the stress many college students face as they move away from home and navigate life and academics can create a need for mental health support. Jennifer specializes in test anxiety, social anxiety, substance overuse issues and other co-occurring mental health concerns utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.

What therapy can help with

ADHD often travels with other challenges. Therapy at ACES can address:

  • Anxiety and worry
  • Low mood and depression
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Emotional regulation
  • Self-criticism and low self-worth
  • Motivation and follow-through
  • Substance-use concerns

Coordinated with the whole plan

Mental health therapy works alongside occupational therapy and executive function support, while therapy addresses thoughts and emotions, OT focuses on functional performance in daily life. Together they treat the whole picture, not just one piece.
