In their words
Real experiences from the students, adults, and families we've worked with.
We searched for many years to address what we felt were executive functioning concerns for our child. We realized that although we could have goals through their IEP at school to address some things, it was not sufficient to make the progress that they needed to be successful in school and otherwise.
It wasn't until we hit increased mental health concerns that we found ACES, which has been a huge help! They took quick action to identify needs and work through a complete set of supports to address the concerns and help find success. This process made a significant difference and increased success in short time. We have seen so much progress, increased confidence, new skills and perspective that have helped our child feel hope and positivity for their future.
We highly recommend their services!
I was referred to the ACES Clinic as it specializes in treating neurodivergent individuals such as myself. As a late-diagnosed autistic person, the services I have received at the ACES Clinic have helped immensely in both my daily living as well as in understanding myself better as someone who is neurodivergent.
The therapeutic approach taken here is unlike my previous experiences with other clinicians, and I am grateful I can receive neuro-affirming care here in Bloomington at the ACES Clinic.
I’ve been at the ACES clinic for a couple years now and it’s really helped me a lot! Jennifer is a great therapist! She’s understanding, kind, and able to be light-hearted or serious as the situation demands. She’s helped me to articulate what I was feeling and acknowledge my own faults without judging me for them. We hit it off pretty darn well from the very beginning and it’s been good ever since. I feel better after talking to her.
As for Janell, our relationship started off a bit rough. I was immature and standoffish with her, I’ll admit. I was really frustrated about being unemployed and the whole job search process irked me. But Janell was willing to help me, even after I was rude to her. And, over time, I realized she was right about a lot of things. She helped me figure out areas where I needed to improve, including things I didn’t even know were a problem, such as my tone of voice. She was willing to go with me to appointments and career centers, helping me navigate the things I didn’t understand. She helped to hold me accountable for things, such as not using my personal phone at work. And she was always nudging me to get things done, which, while I may not have appreciated it at the time, was something I really needed.
The ACES clinic has been a positive addition to my life. I’m definitely in a better place than I was before. I have a better grasp on my emotions. I’m more aware of the things I struggle with.
And I feel like Janell and Jennifer aren’t just my career coach and my therapist. I feel like they’re my friends.
